Reached through a vaulted passage from Calle Juan Manuel to the west and Calle Derecha al Coso to the northeast, Peñafiel's plaza is one of the oldest bullrings in Spain. Medieval in origin, it is rectangular in shape and fronted by 48 small houses, two or three storeys high, with loggias and wooden shutters. Several balconies have retained their intricate, lace-like decor of arabesques. The ground is beaten earth. Since 1433, the fiesta of Nuestra Señora y San Roque has been held here from 14-18 August every year.
