Useful information

Description

This medieval gate, a survivor of the great fire of 1731, is built in a zigzag pattern. A small votive chapel (with many commemorative plaques and home to a Virgin) has been built below it and many passers-by of all ages continue to stop here to pray and light a candle. The slender outline in the niche of the right-hand wall is that of Dora Krupic, the heroine of The Goldsmith's Gold, a novel by one of Zagreb's best-known writers, August Senoa (1838-1881).
