Useful information

Description

The foundation stone of the Catholic cathedral was laid in 1827, one year before the Emancipation Act. Funds were subscribed by the local inhabitants regardless of their denomination. The cruciform structure was designed by Dominic Madden, before he abandoned the project. It was finally completed and consecrated in 1837. It underwent restoration in 1992.
