The Michelin Guide's review
The impressive north gate, Bargate, was built around 1180. Its large towers were added in around 1285 and the imposing north façade in the 15C. Note the 15C Catchcold Tower, designed to house weapons and cannons. At the top of Blue Anchor Lane, a large Tudor house dating from the early 16C boasts a garden and maze. Several buildings linked with trade in the town, such as Merchant's Hall and Wool House, are also worthy of interest.
