This is Russia's oldest Museum of Military History. Housed in a huge red brick building erected between 1849 and 1860 on a design by Piotr Tamanski, the Military Historical Museum of Artillery has a sensational collection of arms. It boasts missiles, military vehicles, uniforms, banners, and paintings of battles. One section is devoted to the Second World War. The highlight of the visit, an armoured car driven by Lenin on 3 April 1917, keeps alive the memory of the days that shook the world.
