Useful information

Description

Fort Nelson, a superbly restored Victorian fort, is one of a chain of forts built to defend Portsmouth from French invasion. Nowadays it boasts superb views from its walls. Inside the recreated barracks, a museum displays an impressive collection of artillery from many different countries (India, China, Turkey) and periods, ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day. The collection also includes the "superguns" destined for Iraq but seized by British Customs.
