Useful information

Description

In the Parque del Oeste, on Príncipe Pío hill, one of the highest points in Madrid, you are greeted by the incongruous sight of the Egyptian Temple of Debod. It was gifted to Spain by Egypt by way of thanks for its efforts to conserve its heritage when it was at risk during construction of the Aswan Dam. The temple was dismantled stone by stone and transferred to Madrid in 1968. Erected at Abu Simbel in honour of the god Amon and goddess Isis, it dates from the 4C BC.
