Useful information

Description

The Duke of Wellington's residence, Apsley House was given to the nation by the 7th duke in 1947. Londoners know it by the name of "Number One, London", since it was the first important house encountered on entering the metropolis. It was built between 1771 and 1778 by Robert Adam for the Lord Chancellor Henry Bathurst, Baron Apsley, and was remodelled at the start of the 19C.
