This museum, founded in 1844, is established in the former episcopal palace. The collections, devoted to the Siege of La Rochelle, have been enriched with those of the Orbigny-Bernon museum, closed in 2012, and with works of art and listed antiques rescued from a fire in the town hall in 2013. Look out for the works of Orientalist artist Eugène Fromentin on the 2nd floor. The palace also has a contemporary art gallery, where temporary exhibitions are held.
