Description
Little remains of the splendour of the Gelgel kingdom, to which Klungkung owed its political and cultural influence during the 18C-19C, before the Dutch destroyed the town. Enter through the finely carved South Gate (Pemedal Agung) and continue to the Island Pavilion (Bale Kambang) set in a lily pool, the ceiling of which is painted by local artists. Also boasting a painted ceiling is the Pavilion of Justice (Bale Kertha Gosa), depicting the punishments awaiting the guilty.
