Useful information

Description

Dedicated to Amaterasu, the sun goddess and mythical ancestor of the imperial dynasty, Ise Shrine is dismantled and built anew every 20 years. It includes an inner shrine, the Naiku, and an outer shrine, the Geku, as well as over a hundred small shrines dispersed about the city and surrounding area. In theory, the circuit starts at the Geku but it is advisable to begin with the Naiku, the more impressive of the two. The Ise Shrine attracts millions of visitors every year.
