Useful information

Description

The small brick building housing the Himeji City Museum of Art was built in 1905 as the barracks for the Imperial Japanese army. Today, it is home to a fine collection of Impressionist and modern paintings by artists of the likes of Corot, Courbet, Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Derain and Delvaux, in addition to sculpture by Rodin and Bourdelle. Works by Japanese artists from the 19C to the present are shown in the annexe, among which are traditional Nihonga paintings and Tozan-yaki ceramics.
