Useful information

Description

The refectory of San Salvi church is home to a particularly luminous Last Supper by Andrea del Sarto which is thought to date from the 1520s. Although the subject is one typically found in refectories ever since Leonardo da Vinci depicted it on the walls of the cenacolo in Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, each artist interprets it differently. Here, however, Del Sarto breaks with the Florentine tradition by placing Judas to the right of Jesus, without isolating him from the other disciples.
