Useful information

Description

Art collectors and philanthropists, George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth used the fortune they earned in the newspaper business to found this art community in the 1920s. The stunning campus was conceived as a work of art by Booth and the architect Eliel Saarinen. A bold peristyle (1942) connects the library to the art museum. Saarinen House was designed in 1927 by the architect for his family. The campus also is also home to the Cranbrook Institute of Sciences, a science and natural history museum.
