Useful information

Description

Below the Prospect Street bluffs, this 10-acre park along Whatcom Creek was the site of the city's first settlement (1852), a sawmill fueled by the Whatcom (a Lummi word meaning "noisy water"). Trails landscaped with native flora now follow Whatcom Creek and feature interpretive stations that explain the life cycle of the salmon that are annually released into the creek and return here to spawn. The best time to view salmon is mid-October to mid-December.
