Tebaru Hills
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

From atop the hills of Tebaru, it is easy to grasp the geology of this southern part of Kikai island. The grandiose panoramic view encompasses the successive plateaux of the coral reef, covered with numerous sugar cane plantations, leading down to the coast in tiers. These plateaux started to emerge from the ocean as the Okinawa tectonic plate was forced up, around 40 000 years ago, in response to the submersion of the Philippine Plate.
