In the cathedral's extension, the Chapel of the Tabernacle has an ornamented Baroque façade that is typical of the architecture of the neo-Granadian period (1660-1700). This is where Bolívar received a triumphant welcome in 1819 after his victory at the Battle of Boyacá. The chapel has preserved its fine red and gold altar canopy, which is inlaid with stones. Inside, works by Gregorio Vásquez de Arce y Ceballos depict scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
