The large Arnarfjörður ("Eagle Fjord") is subdivided into multiple ramifications. Its banks, lined with beautiful, sombre, snow-capped mountains, have very few villages. Failing a sighting of any sea monsters, to which a museum in Bíldudalur is dedicated and which are said to inhabit the fjord (if you believe local legend), you might have to settle for spotting a whale!
