The Orthodox Žiča Monastery, founded in 1208 by the brothers Nemanjić, Stefan I and St Sava, is characteristic of the Raška school of architecture. It was the seat of the Autocephalous Patriarchate of Serbia and the place where the first King of Serbia was crowned. Charming frescoes, most of which date back to the 14C, adorn the tower walls.
