The park is one of the greatest surviving examples of the golden age of landscaping. Various different compositions display views and architectural follies to best effect: the gateway into the park; the fountain of Atlas (to the south); the lake surrounded by masses of multi-coloured rhododendrons; the avenue lined by classical Greek sculpture (copies) leading to the Temple of the Four Winds; and finally, beyond the cascade and pretty bridge, Hawksmoor's colonnaded mausoleum crowns the horizon.
