Useful information

Description

Beautifully restored, this lovely Victorian brick abode was built in 1895 for Hugh John Macdonald, lawyer, politician and premier of Manitoba from 1899 to 1900. This distinguished philanthropist set aside part of the basement as lodgings for the homeless. The house, adorned in its former dark wainscoting and heavy curtains, boasted state-of-the-art amenities for the era, such as central heating, electricity, running water and walk-in closets.
