Useful information

Description

This fort, a national memorial, was built between 1906 and 1914 to strengthen Antwerp's defences. Although bombed in 1914, it was the town's last fort to surrender to the Germans. In May 1940, it housed the Belgian Army's general HQ, then left empty in the face of the German advance, finally becoming a Nazi concentration camp for about 3 500 people. The tour and museum documents recall both world wars and life in Nazi camps.
