Description

The National Museum of Women in the Arts is dedicated to the work of female artists. With 4 500 pieces, dating from the 16C to the present day, the permanent collection covers every medium, from American Indian pottery to Abstract sculpture. The oldest piece in the collection is by Italian painter Lavinia Fontana (Bologna), who is considered to have been the first professional female artist. There are also paintings by Rosa Bonheur, Mary Cassatt and Frida Kahlo.
