Description
The museum showcases precious collections of ancient and medieval art, Polish art from the 16C to the 20C and decorative arts. The Faras Gallery is remarkable for the 120 frescoes (8-14C), unearthed from the Sudanese site of Faras. After admiring the altarpieces in the Medieval Art Gallery, the Polish Art Gallery is a must for its huge canvas by Jan Matejko, The Battle of Grunwald (1878), depicting the defeat of the Teutonic knights by the Polish army.
