Description

Completed in 1683 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the former royal stables form an arc closing off the grandiose esplanade opposite the château and demarcating the base of the triangle formed by Avenue de St Cloud, Avenue de Paris and Avenue de Sceaux. The monumental gates, high reliefs and rotundas reveal the great importance Louis XIV placed on accommodating some 600 horses, but also the riders, stablemen, musicians and pages. In the middle of the square is a statue of Louis XIV on horseback.
