Canicunca
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

Nestled in a stunning lakeside site, Canicunca is a small rectangular 17C chapel. Inca stones frame the portal. The edifice was built on an Incan huaca (place of worship), the remains of which were reused. The unassuming whitewashed outer walls contrast with the artistic profusion of the interior, where floor to ceiling Baroque frescoes create a picture of amazing density and ornamentation that is akin to a tightly woven and embroidered tapestry.
