The Michelin Guide's review
The Modjadji Cycad Reserve contains a multitude of cycads. These strange trees, measuring on average 5-6m tall, look like prehistoric palms; and date back nearly 60 million years to the dinosaur age. Some of the reserve's cycads grow as high as 13m, the tallest in Africa. Note their short, thick trunks covered with scales and hard, thorny leaves. From the picnic area there is a superb panorama over the valley and the mountains in silhouette.
