Description
The interior of this church dating from 1568 is a masterpiece of colonial architecture. A red and gold arch decorated with angels carrying baskets of fruit on their heads frames a delicately sculpted altar. The stunning Capilla de la Virgen del Rosario (Chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary, left aisle) offers the finest example of Baroque architecture in New Granada. It has an exceptional retable, whose 15 carved wooden bas-relief panels represent the Mysteries of the Rosary.
