Useful information

Description

Construction of Trim Castle began in the 1170s on the order of the Norman knight Hugh de Lacy. The castle subsequently served as a fortress for King John of England and was later used for military purposes during the Civil War. Badly damaged during these various conflicts, the castle today is a magnificent ruin which was used as the setting for the film Braveheart.
