No fewer than 280 botanical species grow on the 23ha of this small, lush green island. For a superb sweeping view, walks as far as the abandoned house known as the "Maison d'Aristide Briand", which stands at the tip of the island. The house is so named because it belonged to Lucie U.-Lalès, aka Mme Jourdan, who was the last companion of the French statesman. The lady herself reigned over the island (a gift from another lover, press magnate Maurice Brunau-Varilla) from 1911 to 1942.
