Useful information

Description

Founded in 1846 on a bend in the Wilmington River, on the site of an old plantation, this cemetery evoked by John Berendt in the novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil bathes in a gentle and romantic atmosphere. Gigantic oak trees covered with Spanish moss (or "old man's beard") form beautiful green arches. The stelae, monuments and statues display a Victorian Gothic style. The sculpture Bird Girl, now in the Telfair Museum, stood here.
