Description
Located at an altitude of 1500m/4,921ft in a valley between Tateyama (3,015m/9,891ft) and Akazawa-dake (2,678m/8,786ft) mountains, the dam on the River Kurobe is one of the must-see sites along the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route. Built in 1963, it is 163m/535ft high (making it the highest in Japan) and overlooks an emerald green dam reservoir. It is possible to walk across the dam to an observation platform, which provides an even better view of the site.
