Useful information

Description

The oldest entrance to the historical town is via the swing-bridge built in 1885 and restored in 1957. Comprising a dense network of winding alleyways with crumbling façades which are gradually being restored, the town offers a typical portrait of southern Italy with washing hanging from the windows and Vespa scooters in the narrow streets. The Aragonese castle, now the naval command headquarters, surveys the eastern tip of the old town.
