The Michelin Guide's review
Wat Chang Lom is easily recognisable by its Sri Lankan-style chedi. An impressive frieze depicting 36 caryatid elephants, from which the temple takes its name ("surrounded by elephants"), runs along its square base. These figures represent the celestial elephants of Indian mythology which carry the world on their backs. In Ancient Siam, the elephant also symbolised reverence to Buddhism and the power of the ruling monarch.
