Overlooking the town of Sternberk, this castle replaced the medieval fortress built by Zdeslav de Sternberk in the mid 13C, of which only the impressive ruins of a round tower remain. Following an eventful history, the castle was largely rebuilt in its present neo-Gothic style by the princes of Liechtenstein (to whom it belonged from 1700 to 1945) during restoration work carried out from 1886-1910. The castle now houses a collection of European Gothic art and a clock museum.
