Useful information

Description

This architecturally audacious bridge was built in 1726 over one of the region's typical wooded dunes. Its stone arch gives it an innovative look. In the early 18C, hundreds of trucks crossed the bridge every day. But by the 19C, this mode of transport had been replaced by steam engines, which visitors can experience on board the Tanfield Railway.
