According to legend, the Mormon settlers who discovered this wooded canyon, named the area Zion, which means sanctuary in Hebrew. Indeed, the natural splendor of its landscape has made it a listed National Monument since 1909! The scenic road only reveals a glimpse of the park, which is best admired from the depths of Zion Canyon. The park is riddled with over 60mi of hiking trails, two of which are legendary: The Narrows and Angel's Landing.
