Description
The working-class districts which developed in this area at the beginning of the 20C (Hongkou, Yangpu and Zhabei) are home to the city's poorer inhabitants. It was in this melting pot and of exiles that the Jews brought to the Hongkou ghetto in 1943 lived in harmony with the Chinese population. Take time to admire the former mixed courthouse (Art Deco façade), the memorial to Jewish refugees at the Ohel-Moishe synagogue, and take a stroll along Duolun Street, with its friendly and traditional atmosphere.
