This fine zoo includes 65 acres of savanna, tundra, marshland, tropical rain forest and other natural terrain. The largest space is an open African savanna; Asian elephants roam through a Thai village as wolves and elk graze in an Alaskan taiga. John Olmsted designed most original zoo buildings in 1909; the park was improved during the 1930s and fully renovated with cageless spaces in the late 1980s.
