The Michelin Guide's review
The Barrès Monument stands at the summit of the Signal de Vaudémont (541m). Built in 1928, it is 22m tall and in the form of a lantern of the dead. There is a superb panoramic view over the Lorraine plateau, which inspired in Maurice Barrès the following allegory: The horizon surrounding this plain is the horizon surrounding all life. It does honour to our thirst for the infinite, while at the same time reminding us of our limits.
