Built on the banks of the Mekong, this is both the oldest (1906) and largest pagoda in Savannakhet. The sim (sanctuary) has preserved red and gilded wood shutters sculpted with floral motifs, giving it an attractive appearance. Vat Sayaphum acts as a school for novices and monks. The large tree-shaded courtyard is used for the making of Buddhas that the bonzes create from moulds and then polish and paint.
