Standing on the waterfront, the sumptuous Marie Selby Botanical Gardens display more than 20 000 tropical plants. Orchids and bromeliads take centre stage in the tropical gallery. A paved path outside circles the 20 garden areas, including gardens of cycad, cactus and crassulaceae, Indian banyan and native plants. An elevated walkway leads to a stunning lookout over Sarasota Bay. The mansion at the north end of the garden hosts temporary art and photography exhibitions.
