Description
Elaborate gilded work and wood panelling sculpted with numerous motifs are part of the Baroque decor adorning the inside of this church, an early 18C masterpiece which has the nickname "the gold church". The paintings on the ceiling, by José Joaquim da Rocha, as well as the sculpture of St Peter of Alcantara by Manoel Inácio da Costa are quite remarkable. Note also the azulejos in the cloister.
