Description
Connected to the upper town by the Elevador Lacerda and two funiculars, the lower town is Salvador's financial heart. Visit the Mercado Modelo and the Arena Fonte Nova, the stadium built for the 2014 Football World Cup; stroll through NE Brazil's largest market (Feira de São Joaquim); or head to the Terminal Marítimo Turístico, the departure point for boats criss-crossing the bay. The Modern Art Museum is slightly further south.
