Useful information

Description

This sea was formed when Colorado River irrigation canals went haywire and flooded an ancient lake bed in 1905. The sea has had a checkered history since, briefly thriving as a resort and amusement area, before environmental complications (both natural and man-made) changed the eco system again. Today it is home to the Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, which protects migratory birds on the shore.
