Domon Ken - Photography Museum, Sakata
Michelin Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
A native of Sakata, Domon Ken (1909-1990) was one of the great masters of photographic realism. This was Japan's first museum of photography and its entire collection, numbering some 70 000 works, is made up of Domon prints. The building, which appears to float upon the water, is recognisable as the work of Taniguchi Yoshio; the famous Japanese architect who went on to design the extension of New York's MoMa a few years later.
