Description
Play beach volleyball or football, drink a coco gelado (fresh coconut juice) or build a sandcastle - there is no end of activities on Copacabana beach! You will need to keep an eye out for pickpockets, however. The district is as lively as ever and has plenty of boutiques, cinemas, restaurants, banks, theatres and luxury hotels. Every New Year a firework display that lights up the beach draws crowds. It is also the time of year when Lemanjá, goddess of the sea, is honoured. Cariocas dress in white and cast flowers into the sea.
