Useful information

Description

An imposing early-19C building houses this museum that charts the different cultures and peoples who have shaped the history of Virginia. The permanent exhibition "Story of Virginia: An American Experience" chronicles the state's history through the lives of Indians up to the 20C. The walls of the Cheek Gallery are lined with the large-format Memorial Military Murals (known by many as The Four Seasons of the Confederacy), painted in the early 20C by French artist Charles Hoffbauer.
