Useful information

Description

This almost diamond-shaped green space was once a Tudor jousting ground, before being used for cricket from the 17C onwards. Surrounding it are the theatre, whose façade was designed in 1889, 17C and 18C houses, Old Palace Terrace (1692-1700) and two other mansions, Oak House and Old Palace Place, dating from 1700. Old Friars (1687) was once the site of a monastery founded in 1500 by Henry VII.
