Great Camp Sagamore
Michelin Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Wilderness playground" of the wealthy Vanderbilt family for more than 50 years, Sagamore represents the passion among America's turn-of-the-century nouveau riche for getaways in the Adirondacks. Built by developer William West Durant in 1897, this "great camp" was once a 1,500-acre self-contained village, providing its owners an "haute rustic" lifestyle. Today the 19-acre National Historic Landmark incorporates the upper camp of servants' and workers' quarters and other outbuildings.
